How to Remain Happy and Productive during the Holidays

A positive mood allows your brain to think more creatively

PhysOrg, December 15, 2010 (excerpts)

“..Generally, positive mood has been found to enhance creative problem solving and flexible yet careful thinking,” says Ruby Nadler, a graduate student at the University of Western Ontario. She and colleagues Rahel Rabi and John Paul Minda carried out a new study published in Psychological Science, a journal of the Association for Psychological Science. For this study, Nadler and her colleagues looked at a particular kind of learning that is improved by creative thinking…

Happy volunteers were better at learning a rule to classify the patterns than sad or neutral volunteers. “If you have a project where you want to think innovatively, or you have a problem to carefully consider, being in a positive mood can help you to do that,” Nadler says. And music is an easy way to get into a good mood…

Nadler also thinks this may be a reason why people like to watch funny videos at work. “I think people are unconsciously trying to put themselves in a positive mood”—so that apparent time-wasting may actually be good news for employers.

Everyone loves a good laugh, but laughs may come at improper or embarassing moments, especially at work; there are more constructive ways to put ourselves in a good mood while maintaining control. The method most people use is listen to their favourite music.

‘Tis the season to be jolly; most people prefer Holiday Tunes this time of year. If you prefer the same old tunes that put in the Christmas Spirit year after year, then you’re good to go.

But what if you want something more? What if you want tunes that not only put you in good spirits, but increase your concentration, creative focus, and mental acuity?

All kinds of music can be spiritually enlightening, like gospel rock, new age, or even some gothic music, but what if we want tunes that can actually give us a spiritually creative edge at work – even when the idea of “work” during the holidays is depressing?

Obviously, you’re the productive sort or you wouldn’t be reading this. In a productive working atmosphere, we like to have tunes in the background that make us innovative, so our work can be superior to that of others.

A good, all around work ethic is important to that effect, so what if we had music that allows us to subconsciously meditate on those ethics? Would you listen?

Only certain environments are condusive to listening to our favourite tunes, like your own office or cubicle in a corporate environment where we’re allowed to concentrate on our work until the next important meeting.

Most likely, we’re at home with tunes in the background as we try to get work done. We can be working on anything like an art, science, history, english project or even working out in the gym or just recuperating from sickness.

We all want to feel good no matter what we’re doing, but we also want to be productive, so we want to get work out of the way as soon as possible to get on with our holiday activities or other play time that we prefer to be doing. Right?

The Big Picture

For this reason, I designed The Big Picture, rhythms and meditations for increasing our concentration, creative focus, and mental acuity. I’m listening to The Big Picture as I write this because it helps me get my work done faster and more creatively.

The Big Picture is the mental device that I wish I had when I was going to school. Better late than never. Now, this amazing work is here to help you get your work done better, faster, so you can put it aside, step forward and enjoy the Holidays.

The Big Picture can also be downloaded as separate MP3’s at Amazon, but you may prefer the uncompressed version of The Big Picture on CD which contains advanced neuroscience technology unhindered by MP3 compression.
